Red Earth and Obsidian
Karen worked with folks challenged with illness or their caregivers.
The obsidian bowl was created as a love gesture to the geology of Lake County. Both the obsidian and soil came from Cobb Mountain, where they were born from volcanic activity.
On a personal level, the piece also represents dealing with or coming through illness. How we can find beauty in fracture and cracks and still present to ourselves and the world a continued promise of existence.
Karen Turcotte co-founded the EcoArts Sculpture Walk with her husband in 2003. She retired in 2012. As a sculptor, Karen was a member of ArtSalonSF and had work displayed at exhibits in San Francisco prior to moving to Lake County.
Karen’s educational endeavors include a Master’s Certificate in Ecotherapy, a Master Facilitator Certificate in Intuitive Arts, Guide in Earthways Wilderness Guides Collective, and Member of Wilderness Guides Council. She also studied horticulture, garden design and landscape architecture and installed gardens throughout the Bay Area. She is greatly inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s work. |
